About the scientist:

George Washington Carver (1860-1943) was a prominent American scientist and inventor, best known for his contributions to the field of agriculture. Born into slavery, Carver went on to become the first African American to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a pioneer in the study of crop rotation and soil conservation, and is credited with discovering over 300 uses for the peanut, as well as numerous uses for other crops such as sweet potatoes and soybeans. Carver's research and innovative techniques helped revolutionize Southern agriculture, providing farmers with new crops and techniques to improve their yields and reduce their reliance on cotton. Carver's legacy continues to inspire scientists and farmers around the world to this day.
