About the scientist:

Santiago Ramon y Cajal (1852-1934) was a Spanish neuroscientist who made groundbreaking contributions to the understanding of the nervous system. He is considered to be the father of modern neuroscience for his work on the structure of the brain and nervous system. Ramon y Cajal developed new staining techniques that allowed him to observe and draw the intricate details of neurons and their connections, which led to his discovery of the neuron doctrine. His pioneering work earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1906, which he shared with Camillo Golgi.
